Seminar # S-004
Georgian Symposium for Project Development and Conversion

General information:
Date:
15 May 1995 - 18 May 1995
Location:
Tbilisi, Georgia
Organizer(s):
Georgian Academy of Science, ISTC

Description
The objective of this symposium was to facilitate international collaboration under the auspices of the ISTC, in part through a presentation of Georgian science available for conversion, and also aimed to develop new proposals for the ISTC. The symposium featured presentations from leading institutes on their activities, visits to institutes, and poster presentations on research proposals. The symposium resulted in the development of project proposals to the ISTC and establishment of contacts with possible foreign collaborators and business organizations. Nineteen proposals were submitted to the ISTC in 1995.

Georgian science had been overshadowed by Russian science during the period of the former Soviet Union. The Georgian symposium provided opportunities to expose Georgian science to Western countries and Japan through oral presentations, poster presentations and visits to institutes. This symposium stimulated the development of proposals from Georgian scientists.

This symposium succeeded in introducing the present status of Georgian science to possible foreign collaborators as the first international symposium in Georgia in the field of former weapons research and in stimulating the development of new proposals.

Participants: about 100 in total: 64 from Georgia, 9 from the EU, 1 from Japan, 7 from the USA, 1 from Russia, 2 from the ISTC Secretariat, and 7 foreign representatives in Georgia.
